Abstract：
I will survey a collection of results which pertain to stability, birational classification and Diophantine approximation for projective varieties. As I will highlight, on the geometric side, a key role is played by the theory of Newton-Okounkov convex bodies and birational divisors on the Zariski Riemann spaces.  Emphasis will be placed on context and motivation. Only a very limited amount of prior background knowledge will be assumed.
