Abstract:
Many interesting equations in differential geometry originate from physics. A particularly well known field is the theory of Yang-Mills field, which traces its origin to Maxwell equations in classical electromagnetism and opens up a tremendously deep field in differential geometry. I will briefly discuss these mathematical results, and present more equations that can be derived/extended from Yang-Mills equations. Some of them are quite recent and are under very active research.
