Abstract:
‭In symplectic geometry, the Liouville theorem says that the symplectic‬‭ volume form is preserved by Hamiltonian flows. For a Poisson manifold,‬ the modular class is the topological obstruction to the existence of a‬ volume form invariant under all Hamiltonian vector fields. In this talk, I‬ will begin with a foundational introduction to Poisson geometry, followed‬‭ by a detailed derivation of the modular class.‬
