Abstract:
It is increasingly recognized that the evolutionary dynamics of spatially spreading populations deviate from the standard expectations of population genetics, such as a Wright-Fisher diffusion process. In this talk, I will first review the mathematics of spatially traveling waves and then explore how spatial effects can affect the evolutionary dynamics of these waves. Finally, I will explain a simple, universal description of the evolutionary dynamics of spatially spreading populations.
