Abstract:
There are many famous finiteness theorems in algebraic
number theory, such as the finiteness of ideal class groups,
Dirichlet's unit theorem, Hermite-Minkowski theorem,
.... They may in fact be regarded as "characteristic"
of number theory which is not mere algebra.
In this talk, I would like to introduce some of them,
from classical ones to recent ones.
