Abstract:
In this talk, I will first give an introduction to tropical geometry and oriented matroids, which are the combinatorial shadow of classical algebraic geometry and the combinatorial abstraction of linear independence over R, respectively. Then I will discuss some recent works on their connection with real algebraic geometry, including my joint work with Kris Shaw that shows some filtration coming from real algebraic geometry can also be interpreted tropically/combinatorially.
