訪問學者演講-Evolutionary dynamics of spatially traveling populations
Abstract:
Population genetics studies the dynamics of frequencies of genetic types in populations. In population genetics, it is often assumed that populations have small variances in offspring numbers (the number of children). However, it is increasingly recognized that many natural populations have high variance in offspring number distributions and that especially spatial dynamics changes the distributions drastically. In this talk, after reviewing the basic ideas of population genetics, I talk about the evolutionary dynamics and offspring number distributions in spatially traveling populations described by the Fisher-KPP equation.
