學術演講-Big Data, Elegant Algorithms, and Fast Computers for a Better World
Abstract:
Can mathematics major students like us make the world better? Yes, we can. Even better, this is probably the best of the time we may contribute ourselves to the society in this big data era. To analyze the fast-growing volume of data and then to create values, we need to invent efficient algorithms on top of beautiful ideas and then realize these algorithms on some of the fastest computers. Based on our recent research, we will illustrate how beautiful mathematical and statistical algorithms can help us to solve large-scale simulation and data reduction problems on the latest high-performance computers. We can then advance the frontier of scientific discovery, health-care, genomic analysis, and many other exciting applications.
