Abstract: I will review the study started with Wilhelm Schlag on the global dynamics of nonlinear dispersive equations such as the nonlinear Schrodinger and Klein-Gordon equations, where the goal is to predict the global behavior of solution from the initial data, which includes blowup, scattering and solitons, as well as transitions among them. I will also mention the recent progress in the energy critical case, where concentration of the ground state together with the spatial slow decay brings more complicated dynamics and difficulties in the analysis.
