Abstract: One of the research topics I am interested in is how convex bodies in the Euclidean space can be associated to certain questions in algebraic geometry. In this talk, I will describe an early discovery of this kind which is accessible to the general audience: how the number of solutions to a system of polynomial equations is related to the volumes of certain convex polytopes (the Newton polytopes of the polynomials).
