Why are Probability & Statistics Relevant to Communication Engineering?
Abstract:
Taiwan is a global leader in communication engineering R&D. Central to communication engineering is probability and statistics. This is because the transmitted signal is a stochastic cyclo-stationary time series. The channel is a random time-varying nonlinear dynamic filter. The receiver is a hypothesis testing device. This seminar will offer an intuitive high-level link of probability/statistics to communication engineering. Two specific examples will be given: one example on channel modeling, another example on the receiver's estimation of phase noise.
