Study Guide for Chap 1&2.

Chapter 1:

• Know the difference between ODE and PDE, especially when a parameter (a variable not participating in differentiation) is involve.
• Know the meaning of "order" of an ODE.
• Know the meaning of a solution to an ODE (i.e. What is a solution?).
• Skip section 1.2 unless you are interested.

Chapter 2 (up to first week):

• Various methods in solving first order linear ODE, e.g. Direct integration and integrating factor.
• Able to determine the undetermined integrating constant from the given data (eg. y(0)).
• IMPORTANT: Able to solve y' = constant * y, y(0) = y_0 immediately, even without thinking.
• Able to manage the integrating factor for y' + p(t) * y = g(t) and integrate immediately.
