Achievements and looking ahead

The Department of Mathematics offers undergraduate programs in mathematics and applied mathematics to provide the students with a fundamental and extensive mathematical training. Courses are available to the mathematics majors who wish to pursue and advanced degree in various areas. The Department also offers master and doctoral degree programs. Programs emphasize on the study and research in both mathematics and applied mathematics. Courses offered include algebra, number theory, algebraic topology, Lie theory, real and complex analysis, functional analysis, differential geometry, differential equations, probability, statistics, numerical analysis, matrix theory and computations, dynamical systems, mathematical biology, etc.

The Department of Mathematics is renowned for the excellent research of its faculty and outstanding accomplishment of its alumni. This includes Professor H. T. Kung, alumnus of the class of 1968, Professor C. S. Cheng, alumnus of the class of 1972, Professor K. Y. Liang, alumnus of the class of 1973 and Professor R. S. Tsay, alumnus of the class of 1974, are elected members of Academia Sinica. Some alumni were presidents of other universities and many alumni are professors of universities in Taiwan, and some others are very successful in IT and finance industry, etc. In view of increasing demands on R & D personnel in the job market, our undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to offer solid mathematical training with diversity and flexibility to develop essential skills in various disciplines in science and technology for further pursue in academic and other careers.
